Originally published: 2025-02-19

February 19, 2025—In the latest issue of the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health, Chiropractic (Volume 2025, Pages 7-16), research sheds light on the potential benefits of chiropractic care for pregnant women carrying twins. This groundbreaking research focuses on alleviating musculoskeletal pain and resolution of breech presentations following gentle, non-invasive chiropractic techniques.

Twin pregnancies often come with increased physical demands, including back pain, hip discomfort, and pelvic tension. This research highlights the chiropractic management of three pregnant women carrying twins who presented with back, hip, and pelvic pain, compounded by concerns about breech fetal positions. Each patient experienced significant pain that affected daily activities, including caring for children, performing physically demanding work, or preparing for childbirth. Chiropractic assessments revealed spinal subluxations, muscle hypertonicity, and restricted range of motion in all cases.

Care plans included adjustments using the Torque Release Technique and Webster Technique, delivered twice weekly over varying durations. Across these cases, chiropractic care not only provided substantial pain relief—enabling improved functionality and quality of life—but also contributed to improved fetal positioning, with breech twins turning to a head-down presentation in one case. These outcomes underscore the potential benefits of chiropractic care in addressing musculoskeletal and biomechanical concerns during twin pregnancies.

Chiropractic care does not treat specific medical conditions but focuses on reducing subluxations, allowing the body to function optimally and heal itself. By restoring balance to the spine and nervous system, chiropractic adjustments create a supportive environment for both maternal and fetal health.

This case series highlights the promise of chiropractic care as a complementary approach for managing the unique challenges of twin pregnancies. While the outcomes are encouraging, the authors emphasize the need for further research to fully explore the efficacy of chiropractic interventions in similar cases.
