How a Rescued Horse, a Chiropractic Adjustment, and a Field of Life Energy Revealed the Power of Innate Intelligence

“When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.” — John Ruskin

BJ Palmer loved that quote so much he had it inscribed on the walls of the Palmer School to inspire students and faculty. It beautifully captures the essence of chiropractic, where love and skill unite to release life’s potential. Recently, that truth came vividly to life through an extraordinary patient named Asher, a dark brown paint horse rescued from the brink of death, and the loving care of Dr. Scott Little, DC.

From a Kill Pen to a Second Chance

Asher was pulled from a kill pen in Texas, a place where unwanted animals are sold for slaughter, destined to become dog food. Rescued by Rob and Tasha, Asher’s new name carried prophetic weight. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, he was beginning a new chapter. But when Dr. Scott Little first met him, his condition was dire.

He was gaunt, spiritless, and barely clinging to life. As the farrier Ben put it, “This horse smells of death.” Despite gaining some weight, Asher had lost the will to live. His life force, his innate intelligence, seemed almost extinguished.

And then came the magpies.

Pecked by Magpies, Drained of Life

When Dr. Little arrived, Asher was covered in blood. At first, he thought the horse had gone through barbed wire. But no, the blood was from magpies. These crow-like birds were literally pecking him to death, drawn to his weakened state.

At any given time, several perched on his back, pecking at his wounds, while others swarmed his legs. Asher simply stood there and allowed it to happen, too weak, too detached, to resist.

Rob and Tasha tended his wounds daily, wrapped his legs, and covered him with an elaborate fly blanket, but the birds persisted. His body was being attacked from the outside, reflecting the deeper disconnection within.

The Adjustment

When Dr. Scott Little approached Asher, he spoke to him gently:

“Your worst days are behind you. You have nothing but good days ahead. We love you, and we will help restore your life, health, and vitality.”

Then, he began to check for vertebral subluxations, interferences in the communication between the brain and body that restrict the expression of life.

Starting at the pelvis and sacrum, he released the tension along the sacrotuberous ligament. Then, he adjusted the sacrum, pelvis, and upper cervical spine, the occiput, atlas, and axis.

Asher accepted every contact with grace. His body relaxed. He licked and chewed, the telltale sign of down-regulation, and the energy in the space shifted.

“Pre-check: being eaten alive by birds. Post-check: no more birds.”

Life Restored

When the adjustment was complete, something remarkable happened, the birds were gone.

Rob and Tasha stayed nearby for the rest of the day. There were no magpies. The next day, still no birds. Two days later, no birds. Ten days later, still none.

It was as if Asher’s energy field had changed. His body chemistry, coherence, and expression of life had reorganized. The same creatures once drawn to decay were now repelled by vitality.

This wasn’t coincidence, it was innate intelligence restored, facilitated through the hands and heart of Dr. Scott Little.

The Masterpiece of Life Unfolding

DD Palmer couldn’t stop talking about the miracle of Harvey Lillard regaining his hearing after the first chiropractic adjustment. And Dr. Little admits he can’t stop talking about Asher.

This experience was a living illustration of the chiropractic principle:

“The power that made the body heals the body.”

When interference was removed, life rushed back in. The field of organization, vitality, and coherence that had been blocked was once again free to express itself.

“Chiropractic isn’t about fixing problems, it’s about unleashing the life force within every living being.”

Epilogue: Love and Skill

Asher continues to thrive under Rob and Tasha’s loving care. His wounds have healed, his eyes are bright, and his spirit is alive.

When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece. Asher’s story is one, not because of luck, but because of what happens when love and chiropractic skill converge in service to life itself.

It’s a testimony to the power of chiropractic, the intelligence of creation, and the beauty of serving life in all its forms.

“Your purpose is not that thing that you do. It’s the thing that happens in the lives of others when you do the thing that you do.” — Caroline Leaf

For Dr. Scott Little, that purpose meant helping a horse named Asher rediscover life.
